Founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, The Bishop’s School is an independent, all-gender college-preparatory day school serving 800 students in grades six through twelve. The School is located on a historic campus in the heart of La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego. The Bishop’s School seeks a versatile educator to join our faculty as a Computer Science and Robotics teacher beginning August 2026 . This role is designed for a dynamic practitioner who thrives at the intersection of theory and application, capable of inspiring students in the classroom and leading competitive engineering efforts in the lab. We seek candidates who hold high expectations for students, design learning experiences that prioritize adolescent well-being and belonging, and possess a "builder" mindset. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse professional portfolio that bridges curricular instruction and extracurricular leadership, fostering a culture of curiosity and high-level problem-solving.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach four sections of computer science and robotics across the Middle and Upper Schools, which may include instruction in: block based programming, Python, C-family languages, VEX, Arduino, and Raspberry Pi.
  • Lead and mentor curricular and extracurricular robotics and engineering challenges, providing technical guidance and strategic leadership for competitive teams.
  • Manage a dedicated Robotics lab environment, ensuring a safe, organized, and innovative space for student-led inquiry and fabrication.
  • Design and implement learner-centered curricula that emphasize object-oriented programming and applied engineering.
  • Collaborate with the Wu Tsai Center for Creative Sciences on initiatives involving design thinking, machine learning, or makerspace management.
  • Serve as a compassionate mentor to students, supporting their academic growth and well-being as they navigate complex technical challenges.
  • Engage actively in the life of the School, including service as an advisor and participation in department meetings, faculty committees, and school-wide events.
  • Be available to students during office hours and at other times throughout the day to provide guidance and support as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in computer science or a related field (advanced degree in computer science or education is preferred)
  • A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience at the high school level
  • Excellent computer science and robotics content knowledge, with the ability to teach mathematics preferred
  • Ability to teach math in addition to computer science (preferred)
  • Interest in supporting current co-curricular programs
  • An unequivocal passion for working with adolescents and supporting them in all facets of their lives
  • Demonstrated commitment and competency in diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
  • Eagerness to collaborate with other department members in creating meaningful, relevant, learner-centered classroom experiences
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and the broader school community
  • Strong work ethic, time management, verbal, written language, and interpersonal skills
  • Irrespective of own religious orientation, ability to support the School’s mission and values as a school founded in the Episcopal tradition

The anticipated salary range for this position is $85,000 to $120,000 based on experience.
